Objective/Mission/Goals
CFL is an ongoing attempt to discover in theoretical and practical terms what quality education means as opposed to schooling, and to discover how to educate without schooling. We also try to show how education can empower all individuals, particularly the disadvantaged groups, rather than domesticate them or make them unwitting collaborators in their own exploitation.

Work Description
CFL is an alternative, quality education centre that seeks to discover, impart and share its understanding of quality education with all interested. The face of CFL is an alternative education centre for children between 3 and 16 years. The heart of CFL is a serious theoretical and practical engagement with understanding issues related with education.

An unconditional acceptance and respect for each individual is the starting point. Dialogue, building non-competitive, trusting relationships and participatory/negotiated learning are our way forward. As far as methods go, CFL believes that one must remain flexible and willing to respond reflectively, sensitively and appropriately to each child. CFL supports and encourages the child to become more self-aware, to strive for excellence in some area of interest, think critically and respond compassionately in life.

Resources Available
Gurveen Kaur and others involved in CFL are very strong in theoretical aspects of education and this has helped CFL bring out a journal called 'Edu-care' to discuss issues connected to education. CFL also organizes regular counseling and discussion sessions with parents of children studying in CFL or elsewhere. The school has a learners' club, where children and adults can together enjoy learning new skills.

Details about Edu-Care: A Forum for education concerns Quarterly Magazine in English. Edu-care takes up a specific theme in each issue related to education such as "play", "competition" and "culture" and analyses them to great depths. The articles are from CFL members as well as from readers. Discussion threads on topics from previous issues are also published.

To Subscribe: Rs.100 for four issues (each year there are 3 or 4 issues). Please contact CFL for details about postal costs and for subscription outside of India
