Many of us had the opportunity of listening to and interacting with Geeta Ramanujam, one of the founder of the Kathalaya at the Network's 2nd Annual Learning Network Conference. Attendees had expressed interest in learning more on the art and essentials of story-telling. This workshop is in recognition of the interest shown. We hope to have a successful workshop with your participation. Kathalaya has focused on training and empowering teachers and individuals in storytelling, to use it as a tool both by the NGO's, as well as Educational Institutions, mainly as an effective communicative tool and overall development of the individual. Storytelling has been known for the power of educating, counseling and addressing social issues. Most often storytelling is thought about as a form of entertainment. Not much has been said about the informative and educative aspect of storytelling. Stories could be used effectively in classrooms to teach concepts, draw the attention and interest of children into the topics taught in class. And in the areas of social work and voluntary sectors, one could use stories to convey the social messages. The Workshop shall focus on the above aspects of storytelling with the outcome that the participants will gain valuable insights into the art of storytelling and use it as an effective communication tool. The workshop is open to teachers, NGO personnel and to all those who share a genuine interest Storytelling. The workshop format will be both demonstrative and interactive.
