Learning Network & TRC Invites you for Mathematics and Story Telling workshop

Math Workshop
Jodo Gyan, based in Delhi, would be conducting a 2 day Math workshop on activity based learning of mathematical concepts for pre-primary, primary and middle school levels. The workshop format will be demonstrative, interactive and hands-on. Participants would be using teaching-learning aids developed by Jodo Gyan for approaching various mathematical concepts.

About Jodo Gyan
Jodo Gyan is a self supporting not-for-profit organization working in the area of activity based education since 1998. Their objective is to support the development of educational materials based on actual classroom experiences. Jodo Gyan has drawn on latest mathematical research to develop their teaching techniques. They have designed educational materials based on their experiences of the teaching-learning process and produce them with the participation of community members in Shakurpur, a resettlement colony in north-west Delhi. Jodo Gyan recently has also worked with the Delhi government to set up mathematics laboratories in Delhi Municipal Schools and is changing the face of math learning.

Math Workshop report

Story Power Workshop
Kathalaya would be conducting a 2 day Story Power workshop. Storytelling has been known for the power of educating, counseling and addressing social issues. Not much has been said about the informative and educative aspect of storytelling. Stories could be used effectively in classrooms to teach concepts, draw the attention and interest of children into science, history and other topics taught in class. The Workshop shall focus on the above aspects of storytelling with the outcome that the participants will gain valuable insights into the art of storytelling and use it as an effective communication tool in classroom teaching.

Topics
Developing qualities of a storyteller, Storytelling forms, techniques, aids - Chitrakathas/Picture Stories, Puppet stories, Mime-Story samples and demonstration, clay-modeling with stories, Practical/Creative sessions and exercises in formation and rendition of thematic stories. Practice in creating storytelling aids.

About Kathalaya
Kathalaya was established in 1999 with a vision to “Make a positive social change in education through storytelling.” Kathalaya reinvented storytelling to integrate the same to classroom teaching and hence, to the curriculum. It has so far trained over 6000 teachers and individuals in the art of storytelling and using it as an educational tool. It has also been reaching out to several schools in Bangalore and around the country with its workshops for children and teachers. Kathalaya has also been successful in harnessing the power of storytelling with the aim to address social issues. Kathalaya has trained hundreds of NGO personnel across the country in the art of storytelling for communicating social messages to the society.
