Resolving conflict – Role of the school

A mini conference organized by the Learning Network and Avehi-Abacus

November 8-9 2003, Delhi

The purpose of this meeting is to explore various forms of conflict and its impact on schooling - including teachers and children. Through this meeting, we hope to identify positive methods and tools that can be used by teachers to promote diversity, tolerance and co-operation in school. Participating groups will have an interest/background in working with school teachers, addressing issues of diversity, pluralism and non-violence.

Conference theme:
  • Discipline techniques for conflicts within the school.
  • Identification and altering of stereotypes (based on gender, class, caste, religion, disabilities, etc).
  • Methods and tools for conflict resolution in schools.
Goals and objectives:
  • Help create a resource base of groups to work in the broader area of conflict resolution especially from a schooling perspective.
  • Learn about various tools/resources currently available for resolution of conflicts in peaceful ways.
  • Document the different ways in which organizations are addressing these issues in schools, with teachers and children and bring out a resource handbook that will be made available on the Learning network website.
  • Form a collaboration/network that would further disseminate the work being done.
