The Learning Network was conceived in Bangalore in January 2003, as a resource for interested groups, individuals, educators and parents seeking meaningful approaches to education. It is coordinated by a volunteer team of network members, located in India and the United States and has several participating individuals and groups. The main activities of the network include an annual conference, workshops on special topics, topic-driven mini-conferences, newsletters and an annual conference magazine.
The network is funded partly through individual contributions of people participating in and organizations collaborating with the network activities. Portions of the total costs are subsidized by Asha for education. Publishing costs are supported by Goodbooks Trust and Asha for Education. The Learning Network is not a registered organization and relies on member organizations for banking purposes.
The Learning Network Volunteer Coordinating Team consists of Anita Balasubramanian, Jayashree Janardhan, Reshma Madhusudan, Swati Sircar, Sriranjani Sridhar, Ravi Aluganti, Meenakshi Balasubramanian, M R Raghavan, Chandresh and Vignesh Nandakumar
