Viveka Asha Yojane is a program organized by Deenabandhu Trust, which is a part of the federation. The aim of ‘Viveka Asha Yojane’ is to utilize existing government infrastructure (government schools) while providing motivated volunteers to improve the quality of education. The current ‘Adopt A School’ scheme created by the government of Karnataka encourages corporations and individuals to adopt schools and improve it using ways ranging from teacher training programs to infrastructure improvements such as toilets, drinking water, laboratories, and library books. India’s poorest go to government schools, and improving them is of critical importance if quality education is to be made accessible to under-privileged children in India. The organization started by adopting 52 government schools in Chamarajnagar district, which has now been increased to 72 schools. The role of CRC members, BRC members, BEO, DPEP members, SDMCs, villagers is central to the operation of this scheme. 5 social workers work with these schools, creating teaching aids, and following up with the teachers for clarifications. Training, especially in science and math concepts is provided to the SDMC members and teachers. The social workers also involve the SDMC and villagers in discussions around various government programs. The organization also concentrates on raising awareness on environmental issues and recently had a plastic free campaign. The organization conducts programs to encourage the participation of villagers and SDMC members in school improvement issues. The key resource person for the math and science program is Prof. Baluragi from Dharwad. He has been helping with creating training materials and lesson plans to make teaching of science and math simpler. The teachers are encouraged to address concerns and issues with the current textbooks to the textbook dept and government officials.
