Philosophy/Beliefs

Prakriya - “the green wisdom school”, is envisioned as a school that respects the wisdom of nature within us as well as in our environment. It is anchored by a group of people who believe that education in schools must have a community of concerned, warm, and enthusiastic people and a campus which is green and interesting to children and gives them space for free expression. Children need roots as well as wings. Children get “roots” by relating to parents, teachers and adults who are warm, loving and strong people, people who are searching for meaning in their lives and persist in living by their convictions. Creativity, sense of adventure as well as responsibility for themselves and the world around them gives the children wings.


Work Description
Prakriya is a small school with a class size of 15 in primary school and actively fosters close relationships between teachers and children. Teachers are facilitators and life-long learners, and nurture and value their own warmth, openness, enthusiasm and rigour. Prakriya believes in a work system which is not authoritarian but where all teachers share responsibility for the school and work collaboratively. Approaches include child-initiated activities which helps in building child's sense of responsibility, and thematic learning which helps in integrating the learning in various subjects.

Resources Available
The school offers workshops on science pedagogy, and demonstration of easy to do experiments for classroom teaching for teachers. One day camps for students of class XI-XII on “Environment & Development” are also offered along with classes on History of Science with special reference to the Medieval Period.
