Philosophy/Beliefs
Pravah means flow- a free flow of knowledge, ideas, experiences, expressions amongst people to bring about social change. The flow represents the life journey of every individual from self to society. In the aftermath of the communal violence in Ayodhya, Pravah was found in 1993 in Delhi, by a team of professionals from diverse fields, like management, development, psychology, media, education, theater etc. People at Pravah believe that instead of forever curing in the aftermath of a social debacle, we need to build a society which has the capacity to prevent these breakdowns from occurring in the first place. Their vision is building change makers, because youths have the maximum potential to bring about change in society. If we change their mindset, the system will change. Long term thinking comes from individuals and not systems. Pravah's methodology is interactive and engaging. Theater, role play, games, activities, debates, discussions, films, documentaries, volunteering options with students and young people, campaigns and exposure trips are used, because Pravah believes one learns best by doing.

Work Description
Some of the programs initiated by Pravah are:

Making Change Makers program: This is a citizenship education program, where a 25-35 hour life skills curriculum is implemented. The modules include group sessions on self exploration, self awareness, leadership, group dynamics, moving on to values, clarification and finally to social issues, where we might take up various issues like gender, communalism, peace, violence, sustainable development, environment etc. This reaches out to 3500 students every year and runs in schools in Delhi as well as in Rajasthan.

FUN camps: Short for Friendship Udankhatola Camp, this is a rural exposure for urban students. The idea is to expose urban schools to the rural life and the social issues that prevail there in the community, by taking them through an experiential learning cycle. It s a 6-7 days program, where the students visit the villages, conduct village studies, meet with the people.

SMILE: Students Mobilization Initiative for Learning through Exposure (SMILE), is a national level program for youth. Pravah runs the Delhi chapter and works with students through clubs, theater, action research, films, media, giving volunteer options by placing them in local NGOs in Delhi as well as outside and sending on exposure trips to work with rural NGOs. Major part of SMILE program is campaign to build public opinion on various issues. There have been campaigns on Say no to crackers, say no to poly-bags and campaigning for peace human rights, against communalism, world disability day, and 'Operation ballot boxes', encouraging everyone who has a right to vote to cast a vote and make a difference.

World Youth Exchange Program: This is running in collaboration with VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas, UK) and is a 6 month exchange program for youths between the two countries - India and UK. 8 participants from each country work in rural communities in both countries.

Bridging Universities to Societies: This initiative, in partnership with Ashoka Foundation, promotes the idea of entrepreneurship in youths and students across the country.

Teachers training: This training is taken up in schools where the life skills program is being implemented. The purpose is to empower educators and school teachers to design and deliver the citizenship and life skills program.

Capability Center: The centre provides training on instruction design, facilitation, curriculum design and training in theater of the oppressed techniques.
